Applying for your home loan in Dallas with help from Don Thomas Realty Group
Feeling lots of anxiety over applying for a mortgage? You don't have to be.
I have close relationships with a lot of lenders in the Dallas area, and they've helped me learn a few things that can make the loan application process pretty simple.
1 – Assemble a list of questions regarding your loan program
If you don't thoroughly understand the pros and cons of all the various programs, be sure you have a list of questions with you.
It is a challenge to know the characteristics of both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages. I or one of my trusted lenders will help you understand the advantages and disadvantages of each program.
2 – Decide when you want to lock
When you lock in a rate, it designates that your mortgage lender keeps to the interest rates for the loan – normally at the time the loan application is sent in.
By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between application and issuance of closing documents. Buyers who elect to float believe that the interest rates will drop in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.
3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to reduce your rate
Usually you can opt to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan. Every point is 1 percent of the loan and is payable in cash at the time of closing.

4 – Gather your paperwork
Getting a mortgage loan requires a lot of paperwork, so you should spend some time getting your documentation together. Click here to get a feel for common information that goes on a loan application.
